Pokémon is one of the longest-running anime franchises, which has aced the formula of staying relevant to the masses. The franchise has excelled at producing wildly successful games, sequels, movies, and merchandise. However, the Pokémon anime will forever remain the fandom’s favorite medium for experiencing Ash Ketchum and Pikachu’s adventure to “catch’em all!”
The anime has featured hundreds of Pokémon, and while veteran fans may consider Ash’s Pikachu the strongest of them all, several Pokémon have gone beyond. Even though most of the strongest Pokémon haven’t made regular appearances on the show, these deity-like figures have set the bar high.
Pokémon Best Wishes
Zekrom is a dragon-type powerful Pokémon with electrical powers. Zekrom appears like a black humanoid-like dragon with fearsome wings, and an occasional blast of blue lightning usually announces the Pokémon’s arrival. Zekro appeared a few times in the anime, beginning with the first episode of Pokémon : Best Wishes, where the wild creature zapped Team Rocket in their attempt to steal Pikachu.
Its attack was so powerful that it rendered Pikachu unable to use his abilities. Zekrom has a Gen 5 legendary status, and it’s definitely the kind of Pokémon that no one would want to come across. Besides its few appearances, Zekrom is also mentioned several times across the series.
Pokémon – I Choose You!
Ho-Oh is the only legendary status Pokémon with the privilege of appearing in the first episode of the Pokémon series which aired in 1997. Though the Pokémon appeared briefly, it was to signify that Ash was pure of heart since it appears only to those who are.
As for Ho-Oh’s abilities, it is the only Pokémon known to wield the power of resurrection or restoration. The fire-type Pokémon can revive any Pokémon and even use a devastating fire attack called the Sacred Fire. Ho-Oh has a phoenix-bird-like structure with a distinctive tail that leaves a scorching trail.
Pokémon The Movie 2000
Known as the Trio Master of the Legendary Birds, this powerful Pokémon is a Gen-II psychic-flying type mythical creature with a massive dragon-like body. This legendary Pokémon first appeared in the second movie of the anime franchise, and due to its overwhelming powers, it prefers to keep to the depths of the ocean in solitude. Lugia is a force to be reckoned with, as with a single flap of its majestic wings, it can create violent storms.
Even though the guardian of the sea is a good-natured beast, it can unleash chaos against those who mean to harm the creatures of the sea with its devastating powers of controlling the sea. Apart from its water-based abilities, Lugia can also communicate with humans telepathically, establishing itself as an intelligent being like MewTwo.
Celebi may not be as big as Lugia, but it’s a mythical psychic-grass type Pokémon with innate abilities on par with any other powerful legendary Pokémon. The grass pixie-like Pokémon is first introduced in the fourth Pokémon movie, where it is running from a reputed Pokémon hunter who wants to enslave Celebi into doing his bidding.
Celebi is the only Pokémon with time-traveling abilities besides the time deity. What Celebi doesn’t have in strength, size, or offensive moves, it makes up with its ability to not only travel to the past, present, and future but also take other people and Pokémon with it. This sprite-like Pokémon can also heal, boost plantation, and fly.
Pokémon – Destiny Deoxys
Rayquaza is a fearsome-looking dragon-type Legendary Pokémon belonging to the Weather Trio. It has a serpentine body with razor-sharp teeth and claws. The Mega form of the Pokémon is even more aggressive than its natural form, holding immense control over speed and direction.
Since Rayquaza is one of the trio masters of the Weather Legendaries, it resides in the atmosphere and is tasked with protecting the earth from atmospheric threats. The audience can imagine this Pokémon’s sheer strength by the fact that it single-handedly fought against his fellow masters – Kyogre and Groudon, without using full force.
5 Palkia & Dialga
Pokémon Diamond and Pearl
Palkia’s appearance resembles a mighty mecha dragon with heavenly powers. The Creation Trio is an ancient power comprising Palkia, Dialga, and Giratina. Both Palkia and Dialga are beings from the Sinnoh legend created by the mighty Arceus. Palkia is the water-dragon type Pokémon with the power to warp and distort space, all the while being able to alter realities and travel to different dimensions as well.
On the other hand, Dialga is also a god-like being with control over time. Its undeniable abilities allow Dialga to manipulate time, including freezing or even altering it. Even with their destructive powers, Palkia and Dialgia never seem to see eye to eye, and their confrontation once even leveled a whole town.
Pokémon : Giratina & the Sky Warrior
The final member of the Legendary Creation Trio, Giratina is a mammoth-sized Pokémon with chaotic abilities that even surpasses Dialga and Palkia’s. Giratina lives in the Distortion World, which is an alternate dimension to the real world. This gigantic ghost-dragon-type Pokémon has unfathomable capabilities that have an affinity for causing destruction.
This is precisely the reason why Giratina was banished to the Distortion World because of its uncontrollable rage. Even though Giratina mostly minds its own business, it can go full-on nuclear against anyone who disrupts his peace, just like how Dialga and Palkia had to face its wrath during their conflict.
Pokémon : The First Movie
Mew’s playful and cute looks may deceive the audience, but it is, without a doubt, one of the most potent Pokémon in the franchise. The fact that Mew’s cat-like body contains the DNA of every Pokémon ever to exist is enough to establish its powerful reputation. This allows this psychic-type legendary Pokémon to take on the moves of any Pokémon.
It was believed to be extinct until Mew first appeared to Ash and was considered the rarest Pokémon of them all. Mew isn’t aggressive at all and rarely goes on the offensive, unlike many other powerful legendary Pokémon who have an overwhelming aura. It appears more like a child than one of the most powerful Pokémon and also appears only to the pure of heart like Ash.
Pokémon : The First Movie
Mewtwo is a man-made Pokémon originating from the DNA strand of the original Mew. It’s considered one of the most notorious and overpowered Pokémon in the anime because of its enhanced mind control, telekinesis, and teleportation abilities.
This top-tier Pokémon has destructible powers, and due to the nature of experiments it endured, Mewtwo became vicious, which only elevated its power status. The psychic-type Pokémon can be considered an enhanced version of Mew with higher intelligence and more battle-ready instincts. Mewtwo also proved in several instances that it has extreme physical endurance and impressive adaptability.
Pokémon: Arceus and the Jewel of Life
Arceus sits at the top of the power pyramid and is considered the closest thing to a god to Pokémon. This heavenly creature has a multitude of abilities that transcend any Pokémon, even the legendary ones. When Arceus was born, it brought with it antimatter, time, and space, thus creating the Creation Trio. It’s considered one of the oldest Pokémon and the one to create the Sinnoh/Ransei Regions.
Like most god-like Pokémon, it can use telepathy to communicate and has innate strength that surpasses all. Arceus also has power and control over Legendary Pokémon and can be regarded as a being that sits at the center of the Pokémon universe.
