For more than thirty years, the Power Rangers have stood as pop culture’s foremost color coded superhero team. That being said, the Power Rangers as a whole have come to encompass more than two dozen distinctly unique variations, not to mention the numerous lineups that many of them have gone through. In fact, the world of BOOM! Studios Mighty Morphin Power Rangers has added even more iterations and rosters that are entirely unique unto itself.

As seen in the pages of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #113 (by Melissa Flores, Simona Di Gianfelice, Raúl Angulo, and Ed Dukeshire), however, there are only a handful of teams still standing in the comic book spotlight, and even fewer who are fully aware of the threat posed by Dark Specter and his Vessel. Worse still, there is already one team of Power Rangers who have become all too aware of the threat this new villain poses.

When Mistress Vile opened the door for Dark Specter to step into the Power Rangers’ reality, she also cleared the way for him to enter and infect the Morphin Grid that is the source of their powers. As a result, Dark Specter was able to traverse the Morphin Grid and enter entirely different dimensions, including that of the Dino Charge Rangers.

Unsurprisingly, the Dino Charge team turned to their Morphers upon encountering the villains. While this would normally be the correct course of action, the influence of Dark Specter coursing through the Morphin Grid made its way into the heroes’ minds and bodies as soon as they activated their Morphers. Now, the Dino Charge Power Rangers, save for Kendall Morgan, are the latest thralls of Dark Specter, and there is no telling how much damage they will do before they are freed from his control.

The Omega Rangers are the Universe’s Best Hope

An original creation of the BOOM! Studios comics, the Omega Rangers consisted of original Mighty Morphin team members Zack Taylor, Trini Kwan, and Jason Lee Scott, each of whom continued bearing their respective colors alongside Kiya, their Blue counterpart. As the first Omega Rangers in centuries, Zack, Trini, Jason, and Kiya were tasked with taking on the kind of interstellar and cosmic threats that more localized teams simply had no way of handling.

Tragically, one of the gravest of these threats turned out to be Kiya herself. After defeating their teammate, the Omega Rangers learned that this particular chapter in their lives was a minor replay of what their ancient predecessors experienced when their own Spa’ark, the last Gold Omega Ranger, turned on them and became the Death Ranger. Since defeating this threat, the Omegas have reorganized themselves with Trini at the lead in Red while new recruits Yale and Kevor Vrin fill out the Blue and Yellow slots on the team.

Rather than hailing from the small screen or even comics, the heroes of Power Rangers HyperForce instead made their debut in 2017 as the cast of a tabletop RPG web series. Consisting of a band of Time Force cadets forced to take action in the face of a seemingly unstoppable new enemy, Power Rangers HyperForce ran for 25 episodes and amassed a cult following among fans of the franchise.

It was in the recently released Power Rangers Unlimited: Hyperforce #1 (by Melissa Flores, Meghan Camarena, Federicvo Sabatini, and Bryan Valenza) that the eponymous team got their first real comic book outing. Although their stand-alone one-shot gave readers a thrilling glimpse into the lies of these Rangers, the currently unfolding Darkest Hour storyline has given them a chance to truly shine alongside their predecessors for the first time outside the confines of their original web series.

The Original Power Rangers are Fighting a Losing Battle

It comes as no surprise that the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers are still leading their ongoing series, although the positions they currently inhabit are shocking to say the least. While the team as a whole has handled the introduction of Dark Specter as best as they can, individual members have only barely begun reeling from the losses they have suffered along the way. Between Matthew Cook’s apparent heel turn and the death of Grace Sterling, it is understandable that the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers are barely holding themselves together.

As the original Power Rangers, the Mighty Morphin team is still the lineup that everyone looks to as a guiding light and beacon of hope. Unfortunately, the Mighty Morphin team has almost completely fallen apart. That being said, they are still among the most experienced and capable heroes the universe has to offer, and there is no doubt that each and every one of them will keep fighting until they save the day.

The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers might count themselves among the most experienced and capable heroes the universe has to offer, but the Drakkon Rangers might just be the most experienced and capable of them all. Formed by the twisted alternate version of Tommy Oliver known as Lord Drakkon, these Rangers draw their powers in a manner that doesn’t directly rely on the Morphin Grid, giving them yet another advantage against the competition.

Apart from the distinct nuances regarding the nature of their abilities, the Drakkon Rangers are comprised of some of the strongest and most relentless figures that exist across any timeline. Their leader alone is a veritable force of nature, but the likes of the Scorpina and Kimberly Ann Hart of the World of the Coinless and even the primary universe’s Kiya take things to a whole different level. With any luck, the Drakkon Rangers will be able to hold the line against Dark Specter where other teams of Rangers cannot, especially since the most endearing member of their team has already given her life to give them a shot at succeeding in their mission.
