Part II Gets New Sneak Peek, Netflix Release Date

Code 8 fans won’t have to wait long for the franchise’s hotly-anticipated Part II. Alongside a new sneak peek, the release date for the new sci-fi movie has been announced.

Entertainment Weekly recently released several new photos from Code 8: Part II, which will hit Netflix on Feb. 28, 2024. Robbie Amell and Stephen Amell reprise their roles from 2019’s Code 8 as Connor Reed and Garrett Kelton, respectively, in Part II. In the upcoming sequel, per EW’s synopsis, Connor is “working as a janitor as he attempts to distance himself from Garrett. But when a 14-year-old named Pav (Sirena Gulamgaus) is targeted by corrupt police officers after investigating the wrongful death of her brother, Connor is forced to re-team with Garrett, the person who destroyed his life, to help the young girl.”

Aquaman Becomes Big Hit at Netflix as Sequel Struggles at Box Office

The original Aquaman movie enjoys a renaissance on the Netflix charts as its sequel, The Lost Kingdom, flounders in theaters.

The Code 8 Franchise Had Humble Origins

Code 8 began as a passion project for the Amells, who are cousins. The duo initially created a proof-of-concept short in 2016 for Code 8 before launching an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign to raise $200,000 for a feature-length film. The Indiegogo campaign vastly exceeded that goal, raising $2.4 million. Code 8 was subsequently released in 2019 by Elevation Pictures. The film follows Connor, a power-enabled young man, who was lured into the lucrative criminal world by Garrett, who helped Connor sharpen his powers to execute a series of crimes on behalf of a drug kingpin, while a militarized police unit hunted them down.

The Code 8 franchise, which takes place in a gritty world where 4 percent of the population is born with supernatural abilities, was originally set to continue with a spinoff series on Quibi. However, the project was scrapped after Quibi was shut down. A sequel to the 2019 film was announced in 2021 with Netflix acquiring global rights to the film.

Speaking with EW, Robbie Amell praised returning director Jeff Chan’s work in Code 8: Part II. “Jeff, our director, is very good at blending genres so it’s got the excitement, but you have these real characters and real relationships that you care about, because if you don’t care about them, then the powers mean nothing,” the actor said. “He’s amazing at creating these worlds and these stories where you’re invested in the people. And then, we get an incredible visual effects team, we get to have some very cool action scenes, and we deliver the entertainment factor because at the end of the day, that’s the goal.”
