Fargo Season 1 Filming Locations: Where is The Black-Comedy Filmed?

If dark humor is something you vibe with, then we cannot recommend the hilarious comedy-crime series called Fargo enough to you. The show is an anthology series, which means that while the seasons seem to be set in the same universe, every season follows a brand new story with completely different characters.

Fans would already know that the show brings us stories from different eras and periods. This first season of Fargo had its plot set in 2006 and ran to early 2007. It follows the story of a hitman who ends up crossing paths with a simple-minded local insurance guy and influencing him with his brutal and violent ways.

Not long after the two meet, the town witnesses a series of murders, and our story begins. With the two being clear suspects and facing suspicions from the town Deputy and police, the entire show takes us on a dark yet hilarious journey of finding the actual man behind the murder rampage.

The season, they brought together actor Billy Bob Thornton in the role of the hitman, Lorne Malvo, and Martin Freeman in the role of the insurance salesman, Lester Nygaard. Other actors who were also a part of the show include Allison Tolman, Colin Hanks, Bob Odenkirk, Kate Walsh, Josh Close, Joey King, and so many others.

The season was refreshing with the quality of its jokes, the chemistry between the cast members on screen, the way the plot progressed, and the overall direction of the season.

With just its first season out, the show managed to bag the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Miniseries, Outstanding Direction, and Outstanding Casting. It also won the Golden Globe for Best Miniseries or Television Film, and Billy Bob Thornton took home the Best Actor-Miniseries or Television Film award.

This ten-part series is critically acclaimed, and rightfully so, considering how well it finds a balance between strange characters with their weird quirks and a dark and twisted plot. The comedy series has taken its characters seriously, making them complex and three-dimensional.

While many fans seem to think that the makers of Fargo have lost their touch and the recent seasons of the show just do not feel the same, there are still others who look forward to each new season with the same excitement.

The first-ever season of this comedy aired back in 2014, which was about a decade ago, so here is all you need to know about one of the best comedy shows out there and the locations where it all began.

Filming Locations

The show has released a total of five seasons now, and almost all of them, including this first one, were shot in just one particular location: Calgary, Alberta. The filming for the season began in 2013 and was wrapped in 2014.

Except for the fourth season, which was filmed in Chicago, all of the other seasons were shot in parts of Canada. Some of the most common locations that the producers have publicly revealed and shot in include places like Beiseker, Fort Macleod, and High River, all of which seem to be located in Canada itself.

It might have been confusing for many since the season mentioned that the plot was set in Minnesota and North Dakota, but that was true only for the plot. The specific locations where the crew and actors visited throughout the time of filming have not been properly disclosed, so it is hard to point out places while watching the show.

The only common locations that fans have managed to point out include the Bemidji Police Department, Lou’s Coffee Shop, and High River, to name a few.

Even though the show was released many years back, there is still a lot we do not know about its filming locations, which might be because the crew goes back to the same locations over different seasons and does not wish to ruin things for the fans.
