25 “I Am Groot.”

Groot

Vin Diesel as Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy

There are few MCU quotes as used and brilliant yet straightforward as “I am Groot,” originating in the cinematic universe of Guardians of the Galaxy. The character was voiced by Vin Diesel, who managed to put some gravitas on each use of the same phrase.

“I am Groot” may only be three words, but they carry a lot of weight, both in terms of the movie’s humor and in terms of emotion. Groot says quite a bit using the same phrase, especially when Rocket Raccoon is around to translate.

24 “Ain’t No Thing Like Me, Except Me!”

Rocket

When Peter Quill and the rest of the Guardians were incarcerated at the Kyln space prison, they got a closer look at Rocket Raccoon. It was clear there was a larger story to his origin when it was revealed he had experimental ports on his body.

Rocket proved his own uniqueness, even among a crowd of bizarre creatures. The quote perfectly showcased Rocket’s unique attitude while also giving fans a small idea of just why Rocket acted the way he did. Now, in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, fans know exactly what happened to Rocket Raccoon, making this quote even more relevant.

23 “Finally.”

Fans were first introduced to the future leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy when Star-Lord danced his way across an alien planet in search of the Orb that contained the Power Infinity Stone. Peter’s humor and love for classic music were immediately evident, though fans would learn much more about the character when he was intercepted by Korath the Pursuer.

Peter Quill was trying to spread his own name as Star-Lord across the galaxy, though Korath shot that down quickly by asking him who he meant. This made it hit so much harder later in the film when he was finally referred to as Star-Lord by his enemies, proving that he was becoming the legendary outlaw he had always wanted to be.

22 “There Are Two Types Of Beings In The Universe: Those Who Dance, And Those Who Do Not.”

Drax

Dave Bautista as Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy

Drax quickly became an MCU favorite for his unique observations and frequent attempts at giving advice. While he didn’t always get his point across, there are a few nuggets of wisdom spread across his various attempts.

Drax tried to help Star-Lord deal with his unrequited feelings for Gamora by calling out their differences using Quill’s own love of dancing. While he thought he was helping by pointing out their differences, he clearly wasn’t aware of the old adage that opposites attract.

21 “Dance Off, Bro.”

Peter

Peter Quill

The most obvious criticism of Guardians of the Galaxy is that it features an extremely one-dimensional villain who is instantly forgettable. However, Star-Lord‘s final face-off with Ronan the Accuser will be remembered by fans for quite a long time.

The jumping point of “Dance off, bro” is legendary, and encapsulates pretty much what the Guardians of the Galaxy are all about in the MCU. It is a brilliant scene set to a classic song that fits perfectly in the music-heavy entry of the MCU.

20 “The Crabby Puppy Is So Cute He Makes Me Wanna Die!”

Mantis

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 introduced a new member to the team named Mantis, played by Pom Klementieff. Mantis was an alien empath with a joyful personality who quickly bonded with Drax when the crew arrived on Ego’s planet.

Mantis said what almost everybody in the audience was thinking, perfectly describing Rocket as she watched the Guardian’s resident engineering genius in action. Rocket was as cute as a puppy but with the attitude of a grouchy old man, yet Mantis and the audience still loved him.

19 “I Know Who You Are Peter Quill, And I Am Not Some Starry-Eyed Waif Here To Succumb To Your… Your Pelvic Sorcery!”

Gamora

Peter and Gamora about to kiss

There are few Marvel movie romances as good as Gamora and Star-Lord‘s. The two are hilarious and excellent together and, like everyone else in this film, have electric chemistry to go alongside the great performances. Their tragic separation in Endgame is made all the worse by all the time they spent building a relationship.

The “I know who you are…” quote is made perfect by Zoe Saldana’s delivery and the hilarity of “pelvic sorcery.” Gamora and the other Guardians’ lack of understanding of Earth culture is a frequent point of humor throughout, and this is no different.

18 “He Makes Us Laugh And He Loves Us.”

Mantis

Mantis and Drax were introduced in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise as the comic relief of the group. However, while they’re still beloved for their absurd and hilarious comments, the MCU has given these characters more relevant and interesting dynamics.

In Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3 Mantis defends Drax’s heart to Nebula after the latter insulted Drax when she was frustrated at his antics. This an intense and emotional moment will surely stick with fans since it beautifully demonstrates the friendship between Drax and Mantis. Furthermore, it lets the audience know that Mantis and Drax are very important characters and not only fillers.

17 “You’re. Making. Me. Beat. Up. Grass!”

Rocket

Bradley Cooper is perhaps the MCU actor who gets nowhere near the amount of credit he deserves, probably because few people know he is in the films as a voice actor for Rocket Raccoon. In a franchise full of wise-crackers, Rocket stands out with his unique attitude and opinions.

Cooper’s delivery is pitch-perfect throughout, helping make Rocket the layered and humorous character that he is. That is why when he gets outraged and starts kicking at grass, the line becomes so well remembered.

16 “What If Someone Does Something Irksome, And I Decide To Remove His Spine?”

Drax

Another fantastic performer of the MCU and in Guardians of the Galaxy is Dave Bautista, who delivered a unique and incredibly funny portrayal of Drax the Destroyer. While the character was changed from his comic roots, Bautista brought a new heart to the character that fans loved.

Drax is the source of many phenomenal one-liners and hilarious quotes ranging from threats of violence, misunderstanding of sarcasm, and taking things far too literally. “What if someone does something irksome..?” is one of the best examples, but certainly not the only one.

15 “Nothing Goes Over My Head! My Reflexes Are Too Fast, I Would Catch It!”

Drax

Drax’s response to being told he missed a joke is another phenomenally delivered line. It terrifically highlights Drax’s taking of things too literally. Dave Bautista acting offended during the delivery makes the whole joke land.

This quirk is explained as an inability to understand higher language by his species, though it resonated with a ton of viewers who also feel like they communicate in a way different from others. Drax became an instant hit because of his unique personality and incredible strength of character.

14 “Lila, Teefs, Floor, And Me, Rocket.”

Rocket

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has the most heartbreaking arc in the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film portrays Rocket’s hardships before he joined the Guardians of the Galaxy. Rocket and his friends Lila, Teefs, and Floor were experiments of the ruthless and brutal villain High Evolutionary, who wanted to create the perfect society.

Lila, Teefs, Floor, and Rocket used to daydream about leaving their cells and seeing the sky for the first time, and Rocket declared they would do it together. This quote became especially emotional because these are the names they selected themselves based on the things they love. Fans will never forget this moment.

13 “It’s An Unspoken Thing.”

Gamora

Star-Lord and Gamora standing close from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2

While Star-Lord eventually won Gamora over, she wasn’t able to return his feelings or even comment on them. This led to the team’s understanding that there was an “unspoken thing” between them that Star-Lord had to further explain.

After the events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Gamora had a new understanding of her feelings for Star-Lord, though she chose to reference them slyly using their earlier conversation about their “unspoken thing” that was becoming spoken.

12 “When I Look Around, You Know What I See? Losers.”

Peter

Star-Lord quickly became an unofficial leader to the team formed in Guardians of the Galaxy, though it wasn’t due to his rousing pep talks. Peter Quill endeared himself to fans because he wasn’t a smooth talker like Iron Man or a positive speech-maker like Captain America. He stumbled over his words occasionally and didn’t always make the point he was going for.

When Star-Lord started his speech to get the newly formed Guardians on board with his plan against Ronan, Quill initially insulted everyone by calling them losers. He ultimately explained his choice of words by pointing out how they’d all lost someone or something in their lives. Star-Lord eventually convinced his team, but it started out a little rough.

11 “Well, Now I’m Standing. Happy? We’re All Standing Now. Bunch Of Jackasses Standing In A Circle.”

Rocket

Guardians of the Galaxy team shot

Guardians of the Galaxy is far from a typical, cut-and-dry superhero movie. In fact, it denies a few of the tropes often used within said movies, including the triumphant circle of heroes. The Guardians gathered before their final battle to discuss the plan, though they only had about 12% of a plan.

Going back to the phenomenal cast once again, Bradley Cooper’s line was both written perfectly and delivered perfectly. Now, whenever heroes stand in a circle, most fans can’t help but think about Rocket and this line.

10 “You’re A Bad Dog.”

Kraglin

Kraglin, played by Sean Gunn, in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special looking over shoulder.

A recurrent joke from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is Kraglin insisting that Cosmo is a bad dog because she humiliated him with her telekinetic skills. Like most dogs, this is very serious business for Cosmo, who throughout the film, demands for Kraglin to take it back.

However, Kraglin refuses time and time again, insisting that Kosmo is a bad dog, to the audience’s amusement and Cosmo’s indignation. Finally, after Cosmo saves Kraglin’s life, he admits that she’s, in fact, a very good dog. Anyone who has a dog knows how important praise is for dogs, so this joke is hilarious.

9 “I Have Lived Most Of My Life Surrounded By Enemies. I Will Be Grateful To Die Among My Friends.”

Gamora

Each of the Guardians of the Galaxy has led a tragic life in one aspect or another. Right at the top of the list is Gamora, who has been a fighter with an edge and a good heart all her life, even with Thanos as her father.

Gamora’s past helps add considerable weight to her character, making her quote about embracing death truly tear-jerking to hear. It plays brilliantly on the idea of the found family presented in Guardians, making it incredibly memorable even if they did not die.

8 “What A Bunch Of A-Holes.”

Denarian Saal

Denarian Saal from Guardians of the Galaxy

The first encounter between the bounty hunters who would become the Guardians occurred on the planet Xandar. It quickly turned into a battle between all parties that was shut down by the arrival of the peace-keeping Nova Corps. They were led by Denarian Saal, who then learned more about the new team after they were arrested.

Saal was clearly unimpressed with his new prisoners after hearing a long list of criminal records while they were processed. Dropping a derogatory term seemed out of character for an MCU trailer when Guardians of the Galaxy was first announced, but it worked perfectly in the context of the scene.

7 “I’m Mary Poppins, Y’all.”

Yondu

Yondu laughing in Guardians Of The Galaxy when he finds a Troll doll in the Orb.

The Ravager bounty hunter known as Yondu Udonta played a unique role as a secondary antagonist in Guardians of the Galaxy. However, he returned for an expanded role in the sequel that further explored his relationship with Peter Quill.

RELATED: 10 Most Emotional MCU Opening Scenes

Yondu’s return also gave Michael Rooker the chance to deliver a few more memorable lines. Star-Lord’s use, or sometimes misuse, of common Earth phrases or movie callbacks worked perfectly when Yondu used the classic movie line to describe himself as he drifted down from the sky using his powerful Yaka Arrow.

6 “You Were Everything To Me, And I Miss You.”

Peter

Peter Quill with an angry face in Guardians of the Galaxy.

After Gamora came back from the past without remembering anything about her relationship with Peter, the latter has been having an awful time. During Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Gamora joins the team after her sister Nebula asks her for help on a mission.

This forces Gamora and Peter to spend time together, and Peter takes advantage of the situation to try to make a connection with Gamora. However, this Gamora is a different person, and she no longer belongs with Peter or the Guardians of the Galaxy. This quote marks one of the most harrowing moments in the MCU.
